I don't think females (for example) are always valued less than males- I think they are valued differently. The sexes are not the same- they don't perform exactly the same functions. It's a little bit like saying is an apple or an orange more valuable? Well...which do you WANT? Which serves your purpose? If you want to be inseminated (for example) a male would be handy. If you need a place to grow a baby a woman would be handy. And of course we could go on and on through the less obvious examples of how the sexes diverge. But the basic point is- both are valuable and they are different- and most cultures recognize this in some way.
