Compaq commercial PC unit to be profitable in Q3

HOUSTON, April 27 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp. <CPQ.N>
Chief Executive Michael Capellas said on Thursday that he
expected the company's key commercial personal computers unit
to return to profitability in the third quarter of this year.
"We will make money in the commercial personal computer
business, there's no question about it," Capellas said. "We
formally said we will return to profitability in the third
quarter."
Compaq's commercial PC unit lost $19 million in the first
quarter, down from a profit of $24 million in the same period a
year ago. The unit's $2.9 billion in sales was 30 percent of
Compaq's first quarter revenue.
Capellas made his comments in a press briefing following
the company's annual shareholder meeting.
