AMD Introduces Duron Processor

Apr 27, 2000 (Tech Web - CMP via COMTEX) -- NEW ORLEANS -- Advanced Micro
Devices today rolled out its new low-cost processor family, dubbed Duron --
which takes its meaning from the Latin root "to last."

According to AMD executives, "Duron" suggests a name that's "lasting,
dependable, reliable, and stable." AMD's Duron will compete with the Celeron
from Intel (stock: INTC), a chip whose name is taken from the Latin root
"celere," which means "fast."

Duron is the brand name AMD (stock: AMD) has adopted for its K6 product
generation and the forthcoming Spitfire line. AMD said the Spitfire family will
ship in June.

At the same time, AMD decided not to use "Athlon Professional" as the brand name
for its workstation-class chips, while extending the "Athlon Ultra" brand across
the server and workstation space.
