Ten,

Jerry has no reason to go against Rambus. If it gets popular and cheap, he will use it. In the mean time, AMD will have a cost advantage sticking with SDRAM.

<it's still rather remarkable to me that AMD hasn't outright declared Rambus as "dead dead dead.">

Ever heard of so-called "diplomatic language"?

Re: it's still rather remarkable to me that AMD hasn't outright declared Rambus as "dead dead dead."

Tench,
I don't think AMD has any plans or even ideas of using RAMBUS in the future. It's almost like they are enticing INTC to keep pushing forward with RAMBUS. AMD is giving INTC the idea they could adopt RAMBUS at any time they want to. Hopefully, this is driving INTC to over-commit to RAMBUS.

Honestly, we all know that Jerry and the boys are sitting in the back room saying "is INTC really that dumb to actually believe that consumers will be willing to pay upwards of $500 for a 128 MB stick of RAMBUST"?

If AMD were to come out and say "RAMBUST is dead, dead, dead", that might be enough to force the high level execs that know nothing about technology to re-evaluate the situation.

I believe AMD is very comfortable with INTC pushing forward with RAMBUST, and actually encourages it.

If I were AMD I would make that statement at the launch of the Wee Willy. There is no need to beat a dead horse now.
