Dear brownu88: I sure dont want to get into a MSFT bashing thread here, but if you think that the DoJ is a tool of SUNW and only attacked MSFT at McNealy's wish you certainly give Scott credit for a lot of power. I should point out that 19 states, plus the EC, PLUS the DofJ have found fault in MSFT business practices and there were MANY witnesses to back them up. But lets not argue that on this thread.
I own substantial (for me) amounts of SUNW and EMC stock and I think both companies are excellent in their respective fields and that both will excell in the future. JDN

I didn't think the Joy article was very good. He rambled. This problem could have been exaggerated by the person who edited the article.

As I recall, Joy is afraid of replication: machines will learn how to think for us so we might not want to think for ourselves.

Mr. Joy suggests that the environment will remain very much as it is now in the next 20 or 30 years which he believes will make replication a reality.

By contrast, many scientists do not believe that our environment will remain stable so life as we know it now could deteriorate significantly over the next 20 or 30 years. In short, I don't think we have enough time to make replication a success.

Sincerely,

Mephisto
