Getting a brownie badge after a five-minute product review from a convention sponsor is hardly convincing, as your personal experience confirms. The product "award" is an industry in and of itself. It pays to view these "prizes" with a healthy skepticism.

Cheezy technology magazines are even worse. Contributors often write pump pieces for their biggest advertisers. I have seen magazines that are nothing more than paid pump pieces where their customers are the companies they write about, not the readers.

The least credible of all are the stock touting Internet Information Services. They will publish exclusive interviews containing zero questions and loaded with hollow rhetoric about raising earnings, lowering costs and rosy predictions for the future -- never mind that nothing has ever come of such predictions in the past. That's not information, it's noise designed to mask the embarrassing truth.

Hello Brown Bag!

You've been away far too long. Thanks for posting your experience with the various flavors of Linux. Would you consider RedHat close to ready for prime time on the desktop?

Regards,

Leo
