If I Were An American I Would Vote Democrat............ However,I was not impressed with the inventor of the internet's wishy-washy vote enhancing non-position, regardless of that position.Leadership was not demonstrated by a strong contender when the chips were down. Not an assuring message that he won?t do the same if elected to office and have to address a much more important issue. However ,the Dems are the least radical and I tend to categorise myself as a centrist. I see Jesse Jackson is not impressed either by his statements recently. vny.com I've not publicly taken a position myself on this Cuban ? American/Cuban stand-off regarding the boy, other than to bring attention to the ramifications and implications of the decision before the courts with this post........... Message 13474377 ,in the hopes my/our friends to the South realize exactly what is at stake here, and the fact it may impact all nations eventually, and Canada most certainly. I will however say simply this?a son/daughter belongs with their parent(s) unless there is doubtless evidence of mistreatment on an unacceptable scale to the society in which the children are being raised. Since societies or cultures are as varied as the countries and political make-ups themselves,it would appear unjustified to judge the up-bringing of a child in one as better or worse than that of another, based on the affluence or lack there off of one over the other or the degree of perceived or real freedom enjoyed by an individual in one over the other. This, however, can be adjudicated on an individual bases when asylum is requested due to persecution and the like from one?s country or cultural origin. Whether a child as young as Elain can possibly determine his best future interests for himself at age six is unlikely, but the hearing granted should prove to be very interesting and may lay this to rest once and for all. I?m sure it is not as simple as that,as the variations are too complex and circumstances broad to generalise here on this particular thread. To compare cases and scenarios from centuries or even decades ago is not viable either.IMHO. You said: ?... you can't say Fidel lacks a sense of humour. ?. I have to agree with you there. His rhetoric and showmanship is legendary by any measure.Doesn?t make me like him any more with wrongs he has committed,or any more for the good things he has done, but the colourful method in which he jousts with his opponents is Oscar Winning at times. Oh ya! I see yer buddy McCain got a parting shot in at the ? Gooks ? heh heh heh.I liked him too for his straight forward approach, but I fear he may have been a little too reactionary and allow his past experience to influence his decision making on the international stage.I think he deserves a place somewhere in the American make-up, behind the scenes maybe,if only to cut through the BS at times,eh? BTW: Good book for those who are interested in travel to Cuba.amazon.com The best I've seen to date, written from an American Tourist perspective,so you can forgive some references keeping that in mind, but generally informative and fun.
