Another question that defies easy explanation is why there has never been any significant public outcry over the POWs who didn't come home or about the machinations of public officials like McCain who carefully wove a blanket of secrecy around this issue. It can only be understood in the context of what the Vietnam War did to the American mind. There are POW/MIA flags flying everywhere around here: Fire stations, public buildings, and private flag polls. There are more all the time. There is enormous angst about the MIAs, just nowhere to hang the anger. God help anyone or any institution who ever becomes a lightning rod for this pent up wrath.
