Dave B. re: <Each benchmark developer thinks that their benchmark is the "best".>
My issue is with B/M's derived by the makers. Independent third party developers shouldn't be an issue.
I recall in the eighties Intel, IIT, and Cyrix had their own set of B/M's for 287/387 FPU's. Depending on which B/M the press reported, results were very conflicting.
The whole issue is a game by the maker's. I recall a well publicized case where a graphics chip maker imbedded code in silicon specific to a PC Mag B/M. They smoked the competition. Fortunately they got caught, and ended up with a lot of egg on their face.
But these games continue. I suspect that the press, (like PC Mag), also tend to favor heavy advertisers. (Only a suspicion).
The key to me is a totally independent source that makes their living developing apolitical B/M's
