First of all, the current power balance between the Federal and State governments reflects a defacto change in the constitution. A change accomplished first by winking at the provisions they were breaking, then by simple ignoring them. I can't understand why so many people don't see the danger in this.

Second, diversity is healthy, monoculture isn't. National, one size fits all solutions to problems don't work and stifle innovation. It is self evident that 50 independent problem solvers have a better chance of coming up with winning solutions that one monolithic one.

There is so much passion, dirty tricks, and just plain nastiness in politics today because EVERYTHING rides on winning, for the ENTIRE COUNTRY. Of course you attract means justifying ends folks when you are deciding something for everyone in the country.

You don't like special interests power? Atomize the power over 50 entities. Overnight their power evaporates.

More later.
