My opinion here only being very careful. I believe all the bond selling was not done in the US to facilitate the laundering of drug money. The reward of the bond was not good but getting the money washed was.

I'm somewhat familiar with drug money laundering schemes, and because of that background I always wondered if some of those extremely overhyped stocks were actually money laundering operations.

The whole point of money laundering is to make the whole thing look like you made an honest buck and pay taxes on it when in reality you took $1.25 of dirty money and lost $0.25 in the process of cleaning it.

Here's an actual example from Colombia: you open a paint store, and you sell items at a loss. At the same time you issue receipts for a higher price than that paid. Your sales go through the roof as you are the cheapest store in town. Come year end, your inflated sales prices on the receipts make it look like you actually made $1 Million in profit, and you dutifully pay your taxes. In reality all that million bucks comes from drug money.

Is there a way you can use an Amazon bond to post a bogus profit?

Glen;

The more likely reason why AMZN sold its bonds offshore was because there was no interest left domestically for additioanl capital injections into the company.

IMHO
