Well, RAID systems are fine enough, but in the installations that I have heard about at least, even when there are redundant disks, there is also a tape backup. At the very least, it keeps a permanent archival record, which is important for many companies and organizations. So I don't think that tape is going to floppied real soon.

But I haven't been close to a real live tech world situation since the early 90s, about the time Mosaic became popular. Things have changed enormously since then, as we all know. Here, though, is an interesting post from the Yahoo DSS thread on a real life experience of DLT: messages.yahoo.com
Wish we would hear from more current users and evaluators like that one on these threads.
