Pat,
As a lurker, I give thanks to Your strong legs to stand up for YOUR research. Let them attack, most if not all the board is behind you.
Almost reminds me of the Tokyo Joe thing. Great insight, great guy, read his fan mail, Bulla, Bulla.
GREED is all powerful

Pat,
For the life of me, how could you get a slur out of "SEC "pump and dump" fugitive". The logic escapes me. SEC stands for Securities & Exchange Commission. Pump and Dump is hype and sell and a fugitive is someone evading law enforcement. To assume slur based on misunderstanding is a little sensitive, don't you think? It is not unkind and unwarranted, it is questioning your word choice of "incriminating" and linking GG's actions to collusion and SEC regulations.
Kent

Pat,

Regarding "may have mentioned AVNX".

GTR runs a forum (similar to SI) for subscribers. Over the last few months, Gilder mentioned AVNX a few times, mostly praising their technology. IMO, his "mentioning AVNX" is not surprising; subscribers who monitor his forum also know about Avanex. This has not been discussed here, so my two cents...

Although his philosophy (focussing purely on technology) may not always lead to great investments, I think he is an honorable person. He has had some spectacular technology picks (eg: CDMA/Qualcomm, Optical components/JDSU...) and he has also made some bad mistakes (eg: disk drive technology, Java and its impact on Netscape/Microsoft, smart radio technology from Tellabs, etc).

Some of his recent choices based on technology (eg: Terayon, Globalstar, etc.) may not turn out to be good businesses. But I think he works hard on trying to understand the various technologies, and does a decent job of highlighting his view of "ascendant technologies" for the technologically challenged (like me). All IMO...

It is good to be open minded. I raise the issue of association of GG and Merrill Lynch on this thread. A number of honest and informed people such as yourself (and others in different threads) questioned about this relationship. I find it difficult to see someone defends him but find this association to be innocent and objective.
