At the very least, internal consistency. To compare CA with SO, CSCO, and MSFT for valuation purposes is to compare apples and oranges. Their businesses are different, their markets are different, their business models are different, and their growth rates are different. All they have in common is the broadly defined technology sector of the market.

Regardless of whether is short or long a specific stock, a sector, or the overall market, one needs some intellectual discipline as well as "feel." Using both is investing IMO.
