What was it that put you over the edge, on this issue, the nursing of Elian back to health after his life-threatening ordeal, or his trip to DisneyLand?

Simple. The refusal of the Relatives to return the boy to his Father.

Subsequently their resorting to the lawless notion that they had any standing whatsoever superior to the claims of his Father.

There is no issue in this regard that requires a decision by the courts. It is too basic. Too obvious. Too much a part of nature. Evidently it is too much common sense for you ideologues to comprehend.

No doubt Castro is using this issue - that's why it is so stupid to hand it to him on a platter. Think about it - in attempting to steal another man's son those people have handed Fidel the Family Values platform, just like they have for years handed him that of Cubanidad by attacking Cuba from without.

What the F are they going to hand him next - Apple Pie?

I hate to burst your bubble on this but there are people who live in Cuba who are quite content to be living in Cuba (Juan Miquel may be among them, and I only use the word "may" because I do not know the man personally).

Many in Russia were happy under Communism and even--yes!!!!--voted for the Communist Party candidates in the last election in considerable numbers.

To say that every person living in a Communist country is unhappy is presuming a falsehood. The father here is to make the choice as to where his son lives, which may be a country whose government you don't like. Our law is that a father is free to do this, even though we may disagree with his judgment. Defiance of the law is unacceptable; if it were, we could all pick and choose those laws and government orders we would obey or disobey.
