Steve re <<what EXACTLY Microsoft has done that EVERY other company alive doesn't try and do.>>

Many! My last post points to some of the examples. Also most other companies are not monopolies so the analogy does not apply.

Re << This is soo frustrating...are you fscking people listening to yourselves>>

Steve, you do not seem to comprehend that there is a LAW in the US that MSFT violated! It is called Sherman Anti Trust law. It is there to protect the consumers of this great country!

What if Standard Oil was not broken up? Only one company dominated all the Oil. They sold gasoline and huge profits. Then wanted to sell engines that only run on that gasoline. Of course they would not allow any other company to compete because no one else had the secret chemical composition of that gas. So now the company sells you the gasoline and the car. It does not work very well and you may have to turn it on off every once in a while. But heck, what other choice do you have.

It's interesting that AOL cornered the "Instant Message". Hotmail (Microsoft) tried several times so that people outside of AOL can use the same feature (standard). AOL kept changing it after Hotmail had succeeded each time. Why is it that AOL, who owns Netscape, allow to bully other competitors?

Re: what EXACTLY microsoft has done that EVERY other company alive doesn't try and do...

They made me buy Word when I wanted to buy Wordperfect.

No major computer manufacturer would sell me a "business" computer with windows but with Wordperfect instead of word. That got a little better after the first consent agreement, but not much, and by then Wordperfect had been mortally wounded.

Few companies have monopoly power that extends beyond their own brand. I'd suggest you read Heinlein's "The roads must roll".

Microsoft (and Intel) wouldn't exist in anything like their present form if the government hadn't squeezed IBM for 20 years to force them to allow other companies to earn some money in the computer business. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Regards,

Dan

Steve - RE: "Microsoft has only done what EVERY COMPANY tries to do. Microsoft is just better at it than most. And you want to PENALIZE them for it?... god, what's next, forcing good baseball players to wear weights on their arms and legs so the other players are on more equal terms...."

Have you read Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut? You would find it interesting. ;)
