Dear Steve:

Netscape had no intention of making an OS. They supplied their software on multiple platforms like Windows, Apple System, UNIX, XENIX, Linux, OS/2, HPUX, Solaris, and many others. They did not want to build their own OS. This was MIcrosoft's FEAR and was never shown. What they did want was to sell servers and allow platform independent third party add-ons (Plug Ins). Microsoft is still scared of Platform Independence. It would lower the bar to enter competition of Microsofts monopoly in OS. They must know that they would be overtaken by someone else and / or lose all that Market Cap. Awwwwwww! Too Bad!
