Well, I am blonde and blue-eyed but who knows what my grandmother got up to.....

I was only trying to say (probably a little heavyhandedly?) that I would hate to see racism brought into this. At least here on SI where we might hopefully avoid those traditional traps and be able to throw out our views, opinions, whatever legal knowledge we possess or that our reading reveals to us, our personal reactions (carefully labelling them as such) and gain some wider understanding. It is the insult-laden or irrational post that sends me screaming to sarcasm.

>>I know most people of all races are hard working and family oriented. However, the Cubans I know seem especially so. <<

On of the things that affects perceptions about immigrant groups is the component of the culture that immigrates. For the Cubans, those who immigrated, at least in the first round, were the educated and moneyed class. This is in contrast to my ancestors, who immigrated from Eastern Europe early in the last century, the current crop of immigrants from Central America, and most other immigrant groups, who were peasants and urban poor. The Cubans were well prepared to hit the ground running so they not only made a good impression, they established a culture of success for Cuban-Americans to their enduring benefit.
