Actually, McCain spent "5 1/2 years in a POW camp" because the vietnamese had the good fortune to shoot down his fancy made-in-the-USA jet aeroplane before he was able to unload any more high explosive on them. Among the points of view here are these - "Oh gee, poor John McCain", and "Oh gee, there are likely little gook families alive today because that murdering SOB got a little of his". Just heard a sound bite from the guy on the radio [yes, Taurus, likely the same as you just heard], and Gott im Himmel he was justifying the whole stupid war all over again as if he hadn't learned a frigin thing in his life ... 'fought against communism' my arse - if Truman had had a clue and refrained from backing the reconquista of the empire of the idiotic french in September '45 there would have been no americans in POW camps ... it wouldn't matter to me whether McCain had the stars and stripes or the hammer and sickle or the great white cross of Santiago on his machine, if he was bombing my people i'd shoot the sucker. There are a number of relevant parallels between american rightist propaganda in re Viet Nam and Cuba - The desire of peoples to independence, to their own sovereign nation, is ignored by the hawks who present all politics in ideological form .. which gives the current dictators of those nations ample ammunition with which to manipulate their own people ... it is a self-sustaining cycle.
