Interesting thought train, Karen. If they cannot be exercised, is it possible to have rights?

I want this to stay secular, not religious, but the Dec. of Independence says that "all men are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights..." which I take to mean that it is a basic tennant of our culture that people have those rights even if they are denied the ability to exercise them.

I hope we're not getting too deep into nuance here, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

. Rights, in this world at least, are purely a societal construct

Rubbish!

Right and wrong, truth and falsehood are not determined by vote or poll.
