I think Microsoft should leave the country. Can you imagine the tax breaks Canada would give them to move a few hundred miles north?

This country is insane. Everywhere else in the world governments support and encourage strong companies- even state sponsored monopolies like AirBus.

Let's see what Clintonista's cronies think when Gates threatens to take his toys and stop playing altogether.

What can they do? Nothing. Is Janet Reno going to force Bill Gates at gunpoint into his old redmond campus every morning?

HJ, the "sum of the parts " argument is apparently already conventional wisdom. The media and mny msft bulls are in a herd metnatility on this thought.

My first instinct however is that it really could weaken their technical and marketing advantages to have the op system a separate co from the Office suite. And they'll have such enforcement scrutiny going foward, it may be hard or impossible to do partnerships or alliances together.
