An example of how a self-made millionaire uses margin.

A friend who owns 100k + shares of Valence called me during the recent market selloff to ask if I was aware of any problems with production and if all was on track. He then asked his broker how much buying power he would he have if Valence was at $10.

On the following Monday he bought 10k shares in the low $12 range. He called me a few days later when Valence was at $15 or so and was rather pleased with his purchase. Apparently he stole some low-priced stock from the shorts!

Was his margin purchase a reckless act or typical for a self-made millionaire?
