Dave, looks like the recession may start in Canada before winding its way south. May be time to forget the market and have a Moulson. <g> Hey, do they still have the Lone Star bar in Ottawa? They had pretty good tex-mex food, from what I recall.

just like in 1997 with Asian Meltdown, the weakest fall first

now Europe is in trouble with economy at dead slow
(evidence in Euro currency down 15% since Jan99)
Canada (with its socialist yoke drag) will slow in NoAmerica first

some Asian economies on tenterhooks will falter
dunno who or which

the USA economy exports will soon show evidence of foreign weaker demand
this will actually show up in the figures as accelerating US growth
(since inventory and exports are subtracted from domestic production)

the Federal Reserve is not stupid
but they are proud
they might engineer a recession, hoping it is brief and small
this is a huge risk

they reason (perhaps correctly) that demographic maturation will produce additional trained workers to match corporate staff demands

we will see
I disrespect with all my being economists' foregone conclusions, their stated sustainable claimed levels
(e.g. unemploymt, econ growth, factory utilization rates)

one by one, their myths have been shot down by the New Economy and its revolutionary prowess, its unknown dynamic strength
Greenjeans knows this and talks openly about it

I just hope Grinchberg steps back and allows his hikes to work thru
we will have front-row seats for this one
