As I have mentioned before, there is a great dislike, in this country, for the fact that hispanics will be in the majority within about 50 years. I, personally, would rather see the U.S. continue as a melting pot of all races and cultures, and not just hispanic. Unfortunately, that will not be the case. Once again you provide this thread with the consummate portrait of bigotry! You cannot quite grasp that the Hispanic peoples themselves are a mixture of cultures and races. Now you reveal some boorish belief that the US cannot be considered a "melting pot" once whites of European descent are no longer the majority (It's no surprise after you have admitted that most of your friends hate Hispanics and think ALL Cubans should be sent "back", etc.) Just like all of the other right-wing myths that you come here to dump on us, your opinion is based on a jumble of twisted truths and blatant prejudice...In fact:In less than one lifespan, Americans who belong to racial and ethnic minority groups will outnumber non-Hispanic whites. Blacks, Asians, Native Americans, and Hispanics will attain the U.S. majority shortly after the year 2050 , according to Census Bureau projections....But Miami is different. "Lots of people here are Hispanic in name only," says Joffee. "The younger ones were born here. They don't even speak Spanish." It's the story of America, where every family started out in the minority. "demographics.com Current Projections have it that only 24% of the US will be Hispanic in 2050 hacr.org . So you are mistaken twice...first it's the combination of ALL minorities that will be in the majority in 50 years. Second, there could be no better definition of "melting pot", (if even your facts were right!) Only a xenophobic bigot, who cherishes a monolithic view of all ancestries and races but his own, would view this as "Unfortunate." The rest of us agree with the sentiment that it IS the story of America! Your boorish lamentations about cultural diversity would be comical except that such misguided dogma inspires hate crimes. Like the guy in Pittsburgh, who started killing Blacks, Asians and Jews. Shamefully, there's little remorse from the right when one of their reactionary brethren starts acting out such reprehensible beliefs.
