Philosophical thought has progressed a bit since then, and scientific knowledge (which has increased exponentially) has had a tremendous influence on philosophy. You said that. I took it to mean that you think philosophy has been makeing progess. And if philosophy progresses, it is assumed that social, etc. systems improve as well. Will you conced that point? Yes, then let's move on. re: philosophy is alive and well because many important scientific and political decisions require philosophical examination. And that is progress? Not. Moore's law was recently stated to be obsolete when it comes to optical networking advancements (last week). That is progress.
