Most people read Gilder not as a stock picker but as a technology picker. Still, if you accept his very long time horizons, you might do well to invest in the companies whose technology he endorses. The fact that many have taken to trading his picks does not make him a trading guru. He is what he purports to be and should not be held to another, inapposite standard.

As for his recent detractors, two observations:

(1) When a stock picker or trading guru describes himself as a fraudbuster, I try to remember that a buzzard who happens onto carrion has conquered no beast.

(2) When a stock picker or trading guru describes himself as a crimebuster, I try to remember that an erstwhile codefendant who turns on his accomplices has brought nobody to justice.
