Freedom is only worth dying for if you make the choice that it is worth dying for. If you don't want it, it isn't worth dying for.

Whether Elian's mother wanted freedom or El Loco is debatable- and she probably didn't know the truth herself- our motives are almost always muddled.

Juan apparently does NOT want freedom- so he probably doesn't want to die for it. And his son probably wants to be with his father.

People are willing to die for all sorts of things. It doesn't make those things worth "dying for" for the rest of us. People immolated themselves to stop wars- I'm not willing to do that. So I guess for me war isn't worth dying for. I'm not willing to die for freedom either. In fact, I'm just plain not willing to die.
