Motorola, Texas Instruments Latest to Join Broadband Content Delivery Forum
Nortel Networks, NetWorld+Interop to Host Inaugural Forum Meeting May 11 in Las Vegas
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Motorola [NYSE:MOT] and Texas Instruments [NYSE:TI] are among the latest companies to join the Broadband Content Delivery Forum (www.bcdforum.org), founded earlier this month to recommend open architectures for delivering rich multimedia content and an improved end user experience over emerging broadband networks. They will participate with more than 50 other member companies in the Forum's first meeting at NetWorld+Interop 2000 in Las Vegas.
"The Broadband Content Delivery Forum brings together fresh thinking and new perspectives to the mission of building the broadband business case," said Anthony Alles, president, IP Services for Nortel Networks* [NYSE/TSE: NT], a founding member and co-sponsor - along with NetWorld+Interop - of the inaugural meeting.
"Customers want more than simple connectivity," said Alles, who will serve as the Forum's interim chairperson. "They want the network to truly become their 'world,' a place where they can access personalized services, data, applications and content from anywhere and at any time. The rapid growth of Forum membership and NetWorld+Interop's invitation to host the first meeting demonstrate the support and interest in this initiative."
"As the leading conference for the network and telecommunications industry, NetWorld+Interop is the perfect opportunity to kick-off the Broadband Content Delivery Forum," said Leonard Heymann, vice-president, content, NetWorld+Interop. "We're proud to sponsor the venue for the first meeting of this important initiative."
The inaugural meeting - to be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (local time) on Thursday, May 11 - will focus on establishing a scope and objectives for the Forum. The morning session will be open to media, analysts and parties interested in joining the Forum. The afternoon session, which will include election of a board of directors, will be for members only.
