He also forgets that this Lazaro family is not a Cuban-American success story. Lazaro has a fair number of DUI arrests, appears to be an alcoholic, and appears not to have worked for years before this all happened. Two cousins are strong-arm robbers. Marisleysis, even pre-Elian, has a history of emotional problems requiring occasional hospitalizations. "Uncle" Donato posed as a "fisherman" when, in fact, he is a housecleaner who does not even fish as a hobby. I think people ought to take a close look at "Uncle Lazaro's Neighborhood" before claiming that Elian was better off there than with his hard-working father in Cardenas.
