Eric L: Re FUD: Very much appreciate your full explanation of how you view FUD and how in your mind Dr J fits into that. You are of course quite correct that I bristled at applying that term to Dr J who I have personally found to be very careful in his statements and just the opposite of the statements which used to come from Scandinavia a couple of years ago and in press releases and "company statements" as well as CEO statements (in Swedish probably so may suffer from translation). I was reacting to the Scandinavian use of FUD which seemed to me to be more of the second two varieties you cite. No way do I see Dr J related to that.

Now we have a major FUD exercise coming out of Japan. It is extremely sad as far as I am concerned because it is a source of considerable confusion among wireless investors - especially those who follow Qualcomm.

Understand you point, but please think about others such as myself who think of the second and third variants of FUD as what it means to us - rightly or wrongly. And you of all people seem to try to be clear and helpful - careful and precise. (That seems to be a long way from FUD too IMO).

BTW I did reply to chaz suggesting to him that he might wish to think about a perception I have which I have not noticed anywhere - so I may be dead wrong - but I think perhaps the reason so many companies in Japan and Europe are falling all over themselves to promote WAP is that GSM requires WAP to permit GPRS have any chance of transmitting data in a way to meet key requirements. As I mentioned there, look forward to your view. Am I seeing a ghost (since I have seen no other mention of this anywhere)? Sometimes I see things that are not there of course. :-)

Best.
