You're right, chalu, I'm no student of the period as you claim to be. But then I don't need a guidebook for how to turn this country into a totalitarian state. Your pointed lack of denials and skirting of the question last night leads me to believe that you are a communist -- if I'm mistaken, just deny it, and I'll drop it.

But, back to the point at hand, to have a takeover like the Nazis did, an insurgent force wouldn't have to follow the exact same steps, only the general process. While the Nazis went after Jews, the same could be done for any group(s) with sufficient demonization, so there would be an "us against them" mentality that the majority could take part in.

I don't have to be an expert on the period to understand that similar political processes, and undermining of the Constitution, is taking place. We lost the 7th, 9th, and 10th Amendments years ago for all practical purposes. The 3rd never really mattered much. Now the 2nd and 4th are under serious fire. I'm of the opinion that the Bill of Rights should stand for something.

I've got to go. Don't think of my lack of replies for a while as capitulation. <g>
