Ted,

In fact, I don't like my brother in law but the only reason I would try to keep his children from him is if he were abusive to them. Otherwise I would never try to separate a child from a parent.

So you do have an exception to when you would in fact separate a child from a parent. There in fact was a claim of abuse of the mother. I think a claim like this should be take more seriously when it comes from such a male dominated cultures as you find in Latin America, than when you hear it from a whiny American woman. If case of Elian's parents, it ended up in a divorce.

So anyway, since we don't know all the details in the case, I am not going to take a strong stand one way or another. If there is no agreement between the parties, a third party - some kind of court will have to decide.

I am not thrilled about the fact that the case is being used for political purposes on both sides. But I really resent when one side is using the armed forces of United States to back up it's argument.

In addition this family that is holding the child is not the best....a couple have been in jail and another is/was an alcoholic

PC alert: normally, you would be stoned by the PC crowd for a statement like this. In PC terms, criminals are disadvantaged people who had a tough childhood living in an unjust society. They are in fact good people, and the cops are criminals and racists.

But again, this case is different, so you will get a pass.

Joe
