I don't think Metalink does something special, I just thought it was interesting that Lucent may purchase a stake in a fabless DSL chip designer that has VoDSL capabilities. They list major competitors as Globespan and Virata. Just thought it was interesting.Metalink Listed in the Fabless Semiconductor Association's BAS/FSA Fabless Stock Index; Metalink Positioned as Leader in the Fabless Semiconductor Industry TEL AVIV, Israel, Jan 25, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Metalink Ltd. (Nasdaq:MTLK), a fabless semiconductor company and leading manufacturer of high performance, symmetric digital subscriber line (DSL) chip sets, announced today its inclusion in the BAS/FSA Fabless Stock Index (FABLS). Launched jointly by Banc America Securities (BAS) and the Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA), FABLS monitors the stock movements of publicly traded fabless semiconductor companies with market capitalization's greater than $100 million. This composite captures the dynamic growth of an emerging breed of semiconductor company, one that leverages its own design skills while outsourcing its manufacturing. "Metalink is a great addition to the BAS/FSA Fabless Stock Index which -- at a year-to-date growth of 235 percent -- continues to prove that fabless is the best performing and fastest growing segment in the semiconductor industry," said Debbie Scoggin, vice president of marketing, FSA. "Furthermore, Metalink represents the hot communications market, comprising a large segment of fabless companies today." On May 15, 1998, FABLS was set with a benchmark value of 100 and is maintained real-time by Bridge Information Systems. The Index is price-weighted and represents the purchase of equal share amounts of each listed company (i.e. 100 shares of stock); therefore, it reflects equal price movements in the stocks, without regard for market capitalization. "We are pleased to be a part of the BAS/FSA Fabless Stock Index and consider this an exciting milestone for Metalink," stated J. Francois Crepin, president, Metalink. "Being recognized for our stock's performance, while becoming more involved with the growing fabless community, gives us the opportunity to work with an increasing network of partners to facilitate the exchange of information and commerce within our market space."
