I/O Chips Enable Increased Bandwidth for High Volume Servers, Driven

By the Increasing Demand for Internet Computing

MILPITAS, Calif., May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced it is providing high-performance I/O chips for Compaq Computer Corporation's (NYSE: CPQ) ProLiant 8000 and 8500 servers. Compaq, the market leader in the Intel(R) Xeon-based server market, incorporates LSI Logic's I/O chip as part of the ProFusion architecture, the first industry-standard architecture to address eight-way processing.

Outstanding. By the way, a lot of people talk about the chips LSI supplies to Sun Micro. That's nice, but Compaq sells a lot more Xeon based servers than Sun sells anything. And, even though the Sun machines are much more expensive than these Compaq industry standard servers, the LSI content per machine may not be much different.
