Doesn't have to be, although the correlation between a strong dollar and weak gold indicates ther may be some positive correlation between the euro and gold.

Regarding the Swiss: I agree there will not be auctions. Everything I have read indicates they will sell the gold directly onto the markets. The exact method and timing still to be determined.

Another interesting first quarter report:
biz.yahoo.com
Anglogold was against the BOE auctions and actually bought some BOE gold and set up GoldAvenue to increase demand, yet they have 15.1 million ounces still sold forward (largest position of any gold mining firm)
