You keep saying this without providing your source--- he was not "absentee" in Cuba at all according to everything I've read-- Elian spent a great deal of time with his father in a shared custody arrangement (legal or not, I don't know). Also where are you getting the facts to support your deadbeat dad accusation regarding financial assistance? And if we're going to stand in judgment on the character of people we know nothing about, how about addressing the poor parenting decisions of the mother in living with a man out of wedlock and after only knowing him two months, a man of questionable and allegedly violent character with a criminal background. Does this seem like a healthy situation for a six year old? Juan may not live up to your opinion of the perfect father, but Mom sure doesn't qualify as MOther of the Year in mine.
