The acrimony affects all of us. You were correct that it causes a stench like a cesspool. It degrades the quality of the discussion and lowers the signal to noise ratio. I am not blaming you or anyone else for the occasional lapses here, but as threadmeister you are in a better position than anyone to set a higher standard. There is always a greater chance of misunderstandings getting blown out of proportion in electronic forums which lack the subtleties of facial and tonal expression, so I think it is reasonable to have certain guidelines of civility for the benefit of all participants. An agreement to stop slander is just the start.
