>>3. I am only concerned about FREEDOM which is protected by the Constitution and is being eroded by people who claim they know better than I do.<<

So it's an ego thing - how dare anyone claim to know anything more than you do. Hmm, but you feel free to do the same to the rest of us don't you? Your statement strongly suggests that.

I believe this is the crux of the problem. People take this "don't touch this law otherwise the government will take all our freedoms away" stance which basically says, we can not evolve/change our society's basic foundation EVER.

But if you participate in the dialouge then any changes will not be effected by others. You will have an active role. Then again, how dare I tell you what to do (and how dare you tell me what to do)! :)

(PS - couldn't we just compromise?)

Your point #3 says it all. The problem is the people who think they know better will never stop until the particular freedom they crave is in jeopardy. They don't realize that a constitutional amendment is a very big deal, and every time one is considered the whole ball of wax is potentially up for grabs.
