I am not interested in fines, licensing fees or other means to control weapons. I'm much more interested in what we can do that will give us a chance to have a safer world. I've offered some ideas - no one has countered with anything in substance. I think education is the key - that and people taking responsibility for themselves again. This whole nation has lost the notion of being personally responsible in an era where you can sue anyone and everyone for just about anything even if you were a factor in whatever happened. But that's a symptom not the cause (you treat the cause not the symptom to cure the problem). I honestly don't think it's the majority of gun owners who are the problem. It's a small percentage of them that make it difficult for the rest to lawfully and enthusiastically participate in their freedom. Again, this brings me back to "what do we do about that small percentage"? So, back to square one -- seems to me gun owners are not interested in discussion and merely want to be left alone with their "toys". You point me to statistics and opinions to back your point, deflect any notion there IS a problem here and stand behind the Constitution. Are you hoping that this discussion will just go away? Unfortunately, that won't happen which leaves a HUGE opportunity for politicians to get involved. That only means more idiotic reforms, guidelines and laws that only hamper your enjoyment and do not address any real problems. Let me ask you a question - after you register your guns, is there any type of periodic accounting done? I mean, you can own ANY weapon you want, just register it and allow someone to check to see if you still have the weapons as time goes on. Would that be "infringing" your rights? Isn't that want we do with other items which are registered? Regards, Peter J Strifas (PS - I just checked, 280 million people do not want guns)
