Hi Mad2; Re stock market valuations. Because it has been so easy to predict that MSFT would be higher a year from now than whatever it currently is, employees with in the money options have taken to executing them and holding the stock for a year. This saves a bundle on taxes. Because MSFT is now trading below its 52-week high, it is now possible for such employees to actually have lost money on options that they were granted for free, even though those options were once deep in the money.

Of course if the stock actually ends up below your strike price, you really save a bundle on taxes.
