That's interesting about the DDT, because in Little ALtars Everywhere, Wells writes about the truck spraying for the insects and the kids would run in back of it so that they could play out all evening without being bitten. ANd then later in the book, the character accuses her mother of being responsible for her lung problems, and the mom says- We didn't know about DDT. But really it wasn't bad for you? (ALthough it's hard to believe that anything chemical you inhale doesn't do something icky)
