Now they don't have a band!!!! Now THAT's funny! I generally don't believe in the Internet acronyms....but that would be the rolling on the floor laughing one.... But if you think that's funny, it just gets better....from Mike Wilson's .plan file (maybe Mike Wilson doesn't understand the meaning of "acquired" and "wholly-owned subsidiary"):*** Gathering of Developer Finger Server User name: mikew Plan modified: Mon May 01 11:18:04 2000 Greetings Earthlings. Wanted to address alot of the questions I'm getting about our T2 acquisition/merger for the folks whose opinions I actually care about... i.e. the gaming community. I am aware that T2's reputation isn't a good one. Back in the Battlecruiser 3000 era, they got a rep for shipping crap and not paying people. This was the result of them not having any money and having terrible product. In the time we've been working with T2 (since about this time in 1998), I can tell you they've changed 1000%. Virtually all of top management has changed, with the single exception of their CEO Ryan Brant. They have gone from absolute obscurity (the 5M dollar deal they did with us in May of 1998 was bigger than their whole IPO), to making 22 acquisitions and becoming a distribution superpower with a larger market cap than Activision, 3DO, Interplay, GT Interactive, Midway, etc. The reason no one realizes how strong they are is because they really have no 'brands'. No really big games in North America, with the possible exception of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Nearly all of their growth has been on the distribution side, not the content side. That is why this is such a great deal for us, T2, and all the developers we work with. This deal gives Gathering the benefit of T2's distribution prowess and gives T2 brands like Railroad Tycoon 2, FLY, Duke Nukem, Nocturne, Darkstone, KISS:Pscyho Circus, Heavy Metal:FAKK2, Rune, Max Payne, 4x4 EVO, and more. Our developers now have a single publisher /distributor to work with, so the economics of our standard publishing agreement get EVEN BETTER. The benefit of this that isn't quite as obvious to outsiders yet is that we will be able to say YES to alot more great teams/projects now. We've turned down so many teams in the past year that most publishers would kill themselves to get to just, because we didn't have the resources to handle them. With this deal, and the fact that our publishing contracts and overriding philophies stay the same, we will become THE most attractive option for any independent studio to take their properties to. Look forward to several exciting announcements in the coming few months. Big new teams, big new projects, and proof that this THE RIGHT THING as John Carmack would say. Stay tuned for more big announcements this week and then after E3 and throughout the summer. And a very sincere THANK YOU to all our founding partners and all the companies and individuals that supported The Gathering through the all-important first phase of our existence.
