Ted,

Only recently has the IE started to improve but it still doesn't work right. I had to download a patch for IE 5 to make it functional.

I wonder how good IE 5 would be if it had some real competition?!! So much for your good MSFT monopoly!

IE surpassed Netscape starting about version 4.0. I am not going to talk about bells and whistles (like IE ability to remember passwords), I am talking about the core browser. Netscape was buggy as hell (up to version I believe 4, when I stopped using it). Now this is not an opinion. This is a fact. With my method of browsing, (having multiple windows open at the same time - often 10 or more), it consistently locked up my computer after some time of use. Of course it caused me to lose track of where I was when I had to restart the computer. This behavior was consistent across operating systems (3.1, 95, 98), machines (2 of my home computers, my office computer(s). I used Netscape early, and later, when MSFT started giving away the browser for free, I paid Netscape (for a GOld version or something) just to support the competition. Netscape blew it big time on their own. At the time when IE surpassed Netscape, Netscape still had a majority of the market (counting hits at popular sites)

Look at it this way: MSFT is a real competition to buggy Netscape.
