I'm not a big fan of subsiding the farmers. It looks rather stupid to me to have very low food commodity prices and then
subsidise the farmers. If food prices were higher, the farmers should have a decent income and we should not pay for it
through taxes.

In the long run its rather stupid for the government to worry about farmers having a decent income. If they can't make a decent income farming then they should do something else. If food prices where higher we wouldn't pay for it through taxes (unless we are paying for government intervention to increase food prices), but we would pay for it when we buy food. for the rich and the middle class the burden would probably not be that great but for the poor it could be difficult. In general I don't think the government should try to assure any profession a decent income. Prices and wages should be left to the market.
