If gold is as "worthless" as many would have us believe, why are the lease rates for gold paid so much higher than interest paid in most bank accounts?

No body said "Worthless", just depreciating. And that is what you are paying the lease rate on: A depreciating price of gold. As gold falls the lender pass the risk over into the lease rates. Least you forget that when gold rose, the rates went negative.

Richard, any one who hates something with such a passion and tries to manipulate it with all its powers at its disposal, as you say, clearly does not find it worthless but a tremendous threat to its very survival.
