Vodafone announces full operation of Globalstar service
Source: AAP | Published: Monday May 1, 6:45 PM

Telecommunications giant Vodafone today said its Globalstar service is fully operational, providing coverage
across Australia and up to 200 nautical miles off the coast.

Speaking in Perth, director of products and technology, Peter Bolger said Vodafone is the first telecommunications
company in Australia to provide a fully integrated mobile satellite service.

The service was launched in Sydney in March to customers in southern Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria,
Tasmania and South Australia.

From today, it also caters for people living in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and northern Queensland
with operation of the remaining gateways at Meekatharra and Mt Isa completing the Globalstar roll-out.

The multi-million system has been built by Vodafone with the backing of its parent Vodafone AirTouch and uses
52 low orbiting satellites.

Mr Bolger said the handsets can be used in any part of the country.

When in areas serviced by Vodafone's existing digital network, the handset communicates via GSM, however in
more remote areas the phone switches to satellite mode.

The service was launched in Perth by Senator Ian Campbell, parliamentary secretary to communications minister
Richard Alston.

Mr Campbell said the service will unlock economic development opportunities in outback Australia, particularly
benefiting the mining industry and pastoralists and graziers.

<<Incidentally, I'm a little disappointed at how few people take up my double your money back guarantees. It's not really fair for you all to just make a fortune on my excellent prognostications and not pay that fee. Maybe I should publish a newsletter like George Gilder...yeah, send money for that!>>

Maurice: I tried to steer you toward the road to riches on this before but you chose not to heed my advice which, arguably, might be quite wise; given that I continue to increase my stake in G* and Lor with near but not complete reckless abandon.

Again, the secret is to end your messages with the famous "EOM"; oft construed as "end of message" but known to the inner circle as "Expectations of Money"; signifying your offering of the valuable information you post in exchange for remuneration.

It's all in the presentation! ; )

Maurice: Re QCOM G* handset production

If recollection serves me the production capability number stated on the QCOM CC was "well above 14,000 per month" and the at the QCOM annual meeting the screen behind Sulpizio displayed capacity of up to 25,000 units per month.

My sense is that the Q expects to ramp production toward the latter number.
