Cha2,

Re: cdma2000 decision by DDI

<< Hope Eric L can take time out at his conference to note this >>

Got the news by phone from a fellow threadster upon arrival at CTST on Monday PM.

GREAT NEWS!

Still have several hundred messages to catch up here, and a batch more on the S&P 500 and Nokia threads before I digest all.

Cha2,

Re: DDI 3G technology choice (updated)

<< Hope Eric L can take time out at his conference to note this >>

Well, now that I have caught up the threads, it looks like my exclamation of glee was a tad premature.

I guess we have to wait until May 12 or so to learn whether DDI will choose cdma2000 or WCDMA for the 3G spectrum license, and did I hear correctly that NT may team with QCOM for a license if DDI won't play ball?

Another key date in the ongoing Holy Wars (harmonization being somewhat illusory) is June 2 when Brazil will determine whether or not to award 1800 MHz spectrum. Two articles (VERY pro GSM) on the subject here:

gsmworld.com

gsmworld.com

BTW: I am by no means in favor of 1800MHz as an appropriate choice of spectrum for the Americas (and a decision here could affect the US, IMO, due to the lack of forward thinking by the FCC as it regards spectrum for 3G mobile wireless).
