You know I actually thought they should have used an assault vehicle- as I would have thought it was 1.legal 2. would have been such a show of force that the relatives might have gently handed over the child as opposed to hiding him in the closet.

Of course it also might have pushed the crowd over the edge into a frenzy of violence.

No way would the kid have been surrendered without force- the family holding him had made that very clear. It isn't a good idea to say things that sound absolute if you don't MEAN them. Things like "we will never surrender Elian".

Does the fact that people riot after sports games make the rioters in Miami "better"? All people who riot are acting on emotional group think- and frequently are taking advantage of a media frenzy to act out. It is always reprehensible, and illegal. There is always an excuse to take legal action, to protest peaceably and to change laws- there is NEVER a good excuse to riot (imo- and I hate to say "never"- but I really can't think of a good reason to riot at the moment. There might be one- but this case sure as Hell isn't it).
