I do know what you mean about the USB upgrade. Microsoft should have made a better offer to Win '98 but if I remember correctly USB was just getting established after Windows 95 was out.
My beef isn't so much Microsofts tricks as it is getting the Lawyers and the punitive ways of the justice system involved. I think at this point Microsoft would be glad to make a few adjustments and go on but any admission of guilt opens them up for a money grab by the states so their Lawyers advise them to fight it.
