after falling 3-to-5% in the first four months of 2000

This must come as a surprise to MU, who said in their latest 10-Q, "Net sales from semiconductor operations decreased by 14% in the second quarter of 2000 as compared to the first quarter of 2000, primarily due to an approximate 20% decrease in the average selling prices of semiconductor memory products. The effect of this decrease in average selling prices was partially offset by a slight increase in total megabits shipped."
(Granted, MU's quarter was December through February, and prices did drop throughout much of MU's Q1).

The 3-5% figure also does not square too well with spot market pricing, which dropped from roughly $9.00 to $6.75 in the first 4 months of the year.

Finally, there's this little item:

"Samsung is the first to put new capacity in place in the form of a new fab, but it won't be in production until the fourth quarter" Garber said. "There is no major increase in capacity coming on line this year

Hmmm. I think "fourth quarter" = "this year". But in any case, MU's window for windfall profits may be closing.
